Enabling The Use of Respondus Lockdown Browser on an iPad or Chromebook

This document details how to:

  1. Enable use of Respondus Lockdown Browser (LDB) for an Exam or Quiz, and
  2. Enable the LDB for use on an iPad and/or a Chromebook.

 

During the beta period, instructors will need to allow the use of LockDown Browser for Chromebook or iPad on a per exam basis.

1. Instructors must sign in to their D2L Account at online.camosun.ca

2. Click on the grid of squares and scroll down to choose the course (see Figure1.).

3. Click on My Tools, scroll down to Quizzes

4. Click on Lockdown Browser in the Manage Quizzes area.

NOTE: To the right of the Quiz name → "LDB is currently "Not Required"" for the Quiz in this example.

 

5. Click "Continue to Lockdown Browser >"

6. Click the down-arrow beside the desired Quiz, scroll down and click on Settings.

7. If the quiz has never required lockdown browser, but now does, you can enable it here as well by clicking "Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam". Refer to Figures 5 and 6.

8. If the quiz requires credential authentication, click on Password Settings.

8 a. Set a password to allow access to this exam.

9. Click on Advanced Settings

9 (a). If instructors allow students to use an iPad to take exams that require LockDown Browser, click in the box beside "Allow students to take this exam with an iPad (using the "LockDown Browser" app from the Apple App Store)"

NOTE: The iPad Edition of "LockDown Browser" is available from  the Apple App Store.

9 (b). If instructors allow students to use a Chromebooks to take exams that require LockDown Browser, click in the box beside "".

NOTE:

  • During the beta period, instructors will need to allow the use of LockDown Browser for Chromebook on a per exam basis.
  • Students using a Chromebook will need to use the regular LockDown Browser installation link for Camosun (they WILL NOT be able to search for the app directly from the Chrome web store).
  • The LockDown Browser installation link will direct the student to the Chrome web store, at which point they should select “Add to Chrome” to install the LockDown Browser Extension.
  • When the instructor allows an exam to use the Chromebook version of LockDown Browser, it will automatically launch LockDown Browser at the appropriate time.

 

10. Click "Save + Close".

NOTE: The title of the quiz has now changed to include the words "Requires Respondus Lockdown Browser".
