This change will impact employees and students differently.

For employees:

  • Employee Email Change: Your email address will end in @camosun.ca [COMPLETE]
  • Employee User Name Simplification - Phase 1: Your user name, see examples below, will be simplified, removing 'intra' and 'bc' from your long-form user name.
  • Employee User Name Change - Phase 2: Your user name will be based on your Camosun email address instead of your Camosun ID.

For students:

  1. Student User Name Simplification - Phase 1: Your user name, see examples below, will be simplified, removing 'intra' and 'bc' from your long-form user name.
  2. Student User Name Change - Phase 2: Your user name will be based on a new user name standard for students instead of your Camosun ID.

When will the change happen?

At this time, ITS is involved in planning for these changes will update the following table with their expected implementation dates.

Why are we doing this change?

ITS is making this change to:

  • reduce privacy concerns related to using your Camosun ID in your user name,
  • simplify the sign-in process, and
  • position the College to deliver additional IT services to students, in future.

Detailed Overview

This will be a multiphase project led by ITS to update and simplify our user names and employee emails. Services related to this project will be located in the ITS Service Catalog and information on changes related to this project will be located in the ITS Knowledge Base.

User Name Change Overview

ITS is making a change to Camosun student and employee user names. We are making this change in a phased approach first removing the words intra and bc and then the Camosun ID Number from employee user name accounts. At a later time, ITS will remove the Camosun ID Number from student accounts.

The purpose of this change is to move away from the display of C#’s in our information systems and update our Identity and Access Management procedures. We recognize that this may be see as a major change and as a result prior to this change being made emails will be sent to Camosun students and employees to ensure for awareness and provide resources to assist with the change as well as informational events to review and discuss this idea via in-person and virtual events.

Please see the following table which outlines the changes to our user names for students and employees after this change. For the employee example, the employee’s Camosun email address is example@camosun.ca.

Employee Email Address Change Overview [COMPLETE]

ITS provisions an email account to all employees. Each employee has a single mailbox with a primary and secondary email address. Currently, the primary email address ends in @camosun.bc.ca while the secondary email address ends in @camosun.ca. For example, the emails sent to example@camosun.bc.ca and example@camosun.ca will arrive in the same email inbox.

ITS is planning to change the order of the email addresses so that @camosun.ca will be the primary email address and @camosun.bc.ca will the secondary email address.

After this change is made you will notice that your email address, i.e., the email address in the to field will have the ending @camosun.ca as opposed to @camosun.bc.ca. We are announcing this change now to ensure that all employees are aware of the change to inform external contacts as well as update any usernames on external websites that are based on email addresses.

This change is being made to support on-going Identity and Access Management (IDAM) initiatives being planned around user accounts and email addresses managed by ITS. Email address naming conventions are governed by section 13.8.2 of the Standards of Conduct policy in concert with the branding guidelines established on the Website Content Style Guide under Common Terms.

Please see the following table which outlines the changes to our email addresses for employees. For the employee in this example, their email address was example@camosun.bc.ca and has been changed to example@camosun.ca
