Windows 10 to Windows 11 Rollout

Windows 11 coming soon to eligible Camosun Computers!

IT Service Delivery, Information Technology Services

This newest version of Microsoft Windows operating system will provide enhanced security; performance; new features and an overall improved user experience.

We are planning this necessary upgrade to all eligible devices to Windows 11 prior to the Fall of 2025 (when Microsoft ends support for Windows 10).

Key points you need to know:

Existing Camosun provided employee devices whose hardware can run Windows 11 can be upgraded voluntarily at any time. Please review the documentation regarding changes with upgrading to Windows 11, and submit a ticket if you would like to upgrade your Camosun provided device. (Please note that not all hardware devices will qualify for an upgrade.)

Please review the Article below to learn about what differences you might notice with an upgrade, and then click on "Let me see if my device is eligible" if you're ready to upgrade!

ITS has Windows 11 installed on a demo device at both campuses IT Service Centers so that anyone can go and try it out before upgrading. IT Service Centers can be found in LACC 238 and Ewing 103.

Starting Now

  • All net new and refreshed laptops and desktops issued come pre-installed with Windows 11.

  • All classroom instructor workstations that are scheduled to be refreshed will get Windows 11.
    • There are classrooms at each campus that already have Windows 11 devices installed.

Check this page daily to see the list of classroom instructor devices that have been replaced with a Windows 11 device, and feel free to use any of them to test it out!

Before Fall classes begin
All ITS managed labs will have Windows 11 installed.

Documentation on the changes in Windows 11 have been provided to assist with the transition.  Please review this article to understand some of the changes you will notice with this upgrade.

Please feel free to reach out to the ITS Service Desk if you have any questions or concerns regarding this upgrade.

What's new for Windows?

Camosun Desktop Screen

Start Menu and Task Bar

Apps will show in a popup when you press the Windows key or click on the Windows icon in the taskbar.
Note: the taskbar cannot be moved from the bottom of the screen as in older versions of Windows.

To find an app not displayed in the Start menu, look for dots indicating more apps are available to scroll through. If it's still not found, use the Search bar to locate it. Once found, apps can be opened, pinned to the Start menu, or the task bar for easy access.

File Browser

The menu bar now has icons for many functions that used to require a right click.  These icons are also shown at the bottom of the new right click pop up.
